A simple system for getting more Google reviews for a trade business
Most businesses lose reviews to timing, not reluctance. Ask at the wrong moment and even happy customers forget.
Most trade businesses don't have a review problem, they have a timing problem. A customer is happiest the moment the job is finished and the space looks the way they wanted. Wait a week to ask, and that moment is gone, replaced by normal daily life where leaving a review is nobody's priority.
Ask on site, before the van leaves. A simple, direct request from the person who did the work, not a generic email three days later, gets a far higher response. If asking in person feels awkward, a text message sent within the hour with a direct review link works nearly as well.
Make the link do the work. A direct link that opens straight to the review box, not a link to your Google Business Profile that makes someone hunt for the review button, removes the single biggest point of drop-off.
Give a specific prompt, not just "please leave a review." Asking someone to mention what was done and roughly where gives you reviews that double as local SEO signal, not just star ratings.
Handle the occasional negative review calmly and specifically. A short, factual, non-defensive reply shows every future customer reading it how you handle problems, which often matters more to a prospective customer than the negative review itself.
